Winter is Coming! How to Prep Your RV Before the Snow Hits

As the chill rolls into Tremonton and those mountain peaks start frosting over, it’s officially time to get your RV winter ready. Whether you’re planning to hunker down with us here at Aspen Grove RV Park for the season or head south chasing sunshine, a little prep work now will make your winter much smoother and warmer.

Here are a few simple steps to help protect your rig and keep you cozy all season long.

Protect Your Pipes and Tanks

Frozen pipes are every RVer’s worst nightmare. But luckily they’re easy to prevent!

  • Drain and flush your tanks if you’re storing your RV for winter.

  • Use heated water hoses or wrap your pipes in insulation to keep them from freezing.

  • Add RV antifreeze to holding tanks and traps for extra protection

Pro tip: Even if you’re staying hooked up, disconnect and drain your hose on freezing nights to keep things flowing smoothly.

Keep the Heat Flowing

Your furnace is your best friend this time of year. Make sure it’s in top shape!

  • Check your furnace and replace filters before temperatures drop.

  • Use a small, safe space heater to help supplement heat without cranking the thermostat.

  • Add thermal curtains or window covers to help hold the warmth in and keep drafts out.

A few little upgrades can make a big difference in comfort and propane costs!

Seal and Insulate

Even the smallest cracks can let in a surprising amount of cold air.

  • Inspect all window and door seals and re-caulk where needed.

  • Add weather-stripping or foam insulation or insulation tape around slides and vents.

  • Lay down rugs or foam mats to help keep the floor warm under your feet.

You’ll be amazed how much cozier your RV feels with just a few of these tweaks.

Prep the Outside

Winter weather can be tough on your RV’s exterior. A little attention now can save headaches later.

  • Check your roof and seams for cracks or leaks and seal them before moisture gets in.

  • If storing your rig, use breathable RV cover to protect it from snow and ice buildup.

  • Lubricate locks, slides, and hinges to keep them from freezing up.

Stay Cozy and Comfortable

Winter RV living doesn’t have to mean roughing it!

  • Stock up on warm blankets, fuzzy socks, and plenty of hot cocoa.

  • If the park you are in charges for electricity, keep in mind space heaters use up a lot of electricity.

  • Whip up hearty, easy comfort meals like soups or chili. Your slow cooker is your best friend!

  • Add some cozy decor. Twinkle lights, a wreath on your door, or even a tiny Christmas tree can make your RV feel extra homey.
